trophy“Give it up for the Ram!” implored the team over at Popular Mechanics as they named Ram their Best Truck Lineup of the year. The results of their Automotive Excellence Awards have just been released, and the unwavering capability and reliable performance that characterizes the Ram lineup has allowed these trucks to dominate the segment.

The Popular Mechanics 2016 Automotive Excellence Awards

Each year, Popular Mechanics takes the time to visit factories, interview engineers, and take hundreds of vehicles out on at least one test drive to determine the best model lines across several important automotive segments, including Cars, Trucks, Sports Cars, SUVs, Sedans, and Electrics.

At the end of the day, they pointed to Ram as the manufacturer that rests at the top of the trucking segment, writing, “In terms of fearless ambition and overall goodness, this striver makes a compelling case. You ought to hear it out.”

The 2016 Ram Lineup

After taking a look at the current Ram lineup, it isn’t hard to see why the people of Popular Mechanics were so blown away.

  • 2016 Ram 1500: This is the 2016 Canadian Truck King Challenge winner, Canada’s longest-lasting truck, and the country’s most fuel-efficient full-size pickup ever. It’s also the only light truck to offer diesel power, resulting in up to a best-in-class 420 lb-ft of low-end torque. That makes it an awesomely capable vehicle, as do segment-exclusive features such as TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission and Active-Level Four-Corner Air Suspension.
  • 2016 Ram 2500: If you need something a little larger and more powerful, the Ram 2500 fits the bill. It is available with a 6.4L HEMI VVT V8 to offer best-in-class gas power or a 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel I-6 to ensure a best-in-class towing of up to 17,980 pounds (8,156 kg). You’ll be ready for any job life can throw at you.
  • 2016 Ram 3500: The Ram 3500 is a rule unto itself, boasting best-in-class towing of up to 31,210 pounds (14,157 kg), a class-leading 900 lb-ft of torque, a Gross Combined Weight Rating up to 39,100 pounds (17,736 kg) and payload capability of up to 7,390 pounds (3,352 kg). Largest-in-class brakes and heavy-duty suspension come as standard.

Looking at the raw numbers, it appears that the folks over at Popular Mechanics have made a great choice in their Automotive Excellence Awards. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments.
